Italian coach Buso passes away

Fomer goalkeeper and coach Sergio Buso, the assistant to ex-Italy boss Roberto Donadoni between 2006 and 2008, has died at the age of 61 after a long battle with leukaemia.

Sergio Buso, the assistant to former Italy coach Roberto Donadoni, has died aged 61 after a long battle with leukaemia.

A former goalkeeper at Bologna FC where he won the Coppa Italia in 1974, Buso also played with Cagliari Calcio and AC Pisa in Serie A before making the switch from player to coach at AS Lucchese in 1987.

In 1995 he returned to Bologna as assistant to Renzo Ulivieri before taking charge of the team for a brief spell in 1999. Described as "a football encyclopaedia" by former Bologna president Giuseppe Gazzoni, he also coached at SSC Napoli and briefly led ACF Fiorentina.
In coaching terms, he was probably best known for his role as assistant to Italy boss Donadoni for two years from 2006, which took in the Azzurri's UEFA EURO 2008 finals campaign. He continued to work with Donadoni until 2011 despite his disease.- http://www.uefa.com/
